Exclusive: Kevin Phillips delivers verdict on Sunderland boss Parkinson | OneFootball

Kevin Phillips has claimed that things are “starting to click” for Phil Parkinson at Sunderland.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England international acknowledged that the manager had a difficult job to do at the Stadium of Light, but suggested that his plans for the club are starting to fall into place.

The Black Cats are currently on a run of eight unbeaten games in League One, and have fought their way back into a play-off place.

And Wearside hero Phillips believes that there could be more good things to come.

“It’s tough, that job is a tough job,” he told Football Insider.

“The expectation of a big club in League One, the finances, the wages are the biggest, on paper the squad’s the best and it’s difficult. You come in, the owners, they demand promotion, they did last year, Jack Ross just missed out.

“Of course, you go in and it doesn’t start so well for Phil but you can see he’s an experienced manager in that league, it takes a while to get your philosophy, your style over and you can probably see over the last four or five games it’s starting to click a little bit, beating Lincoln last week and they absolutely demolish Wycombe.

“You could see his style starting to come through and it will be interesting to see how they fare now until the end of the season.”

Things started slowly for Parkinson on Wearside, with Sunderland losing four of his first seven matches in League One, but things have turned around somewhat in recent weeks.

Currently enjoying an elongated unbeaten run, the club face Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday evening knowing that a win would take them to within three points of the top of the table.
