Paul Robinson insisted he “would love to see Gareth Bale back in a Tottenham shirt” but claimed there are 600,000 reasons why it is very unlikely.
The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, said that the only way the 31-year-old would leave Real Madrid was if his contract was terminated by the La Liga giants.
Bale has two years remaining on his contract at the Bernabau where he earns a whopping £600,000-a-week.
Football Insider revealed that Spurs are keeping close tabs on the attacker’s situation in Madrid with an eye to a loan move late in the window.
Any deal would be a temporary one and would involve Real paying a large portion of the player’s wages.
When asked by Football Insider if he saw Bale leaving the Spanish giants this summer, Robinson said: “All parties are at a complete stalemate.
“I would love to see him back in a Spurs shirt, I would love to see him back in the Premier League.
“It has been a waste of one of the world’s best players who has sat there not doing anything but I can give you £600,000 reasons a week as to why he is not going anywhere. He has got a fantastic contract.
“He is fit and ready to play but Zidane does not want to play him. They are going to demand a huge transfer fee which nobody is going to pay. He is going to demand huge wages, which nobody is going to pay.
“So unless he comes to a deal with Real Madrid where they will give him a pay-off and terminate his contract I cannot see an end to it.”
In other Tottenham news, Alan Hutton has told Football Insider that Jose Mourinho “was not happy” after major transfer development.
