Alan Hutton insists that losing both Kemar Roofe and Joe Aribo to injury could prove to be a big blow for Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Light Blues star believes the duo have the “brilliance” to unlock defences that other forwards at Ibrox lack.

Speaking to Rangers TV after the 2-2 draw with Hibs, Gerrard confirmed that Roofe would be ruled out “in the short-term” after a scan uncovered a calf issue more serious than first thought.

He joins Aribo on the sidelines after Gerrard confirmed at the start of the month that the midfielder would be missing for as long as six weeks with an ankle problem.

Hutton believes that the pair are going to be a big miss for Gerrard as they offer a “different dimension” to the Gers’ other forward options.

Speaking of Roofe, Hutton told Football Insider: “I just think he came in, he looked fit and he was getting sharper and his link-up play is so good, so intelligent, he sees things that other people don’t – that’s the difference between him and Morelos.

“Morelos is a total goal scorer, a fox-in-the-box, wants to score where I think Roofe gives you that little extra, that different dimension to their attacking play.

“They’ve missed him, when it’s a case of trying to open up a defence he’s got that little trick or little brilliance that Joe Aribo has so to be missing both of them, they can find it hard to break teams down.”

Aribo has missed Rangers’ last five league games as a result of his injury layoff after he scored his first goal of the season against St Johnstone.

The 24-year-old has scored a total of 10 times and contributed eight assists in his 52 appearances for the club.
