A busy off-season period is taking place at the John Smith's Stadium, and Huddersfield confirmed the release of nine first-team players at the end of the campaign following a disappointing 10th-place finish in the club's first League One term in fourteen years.

Huddersfield, however, will be looking to undertake a successful rebuilding process under the stewardship of former Ipswich Town coach Lee Grant, who was appointed as Kevin Nagle's latest managerial hire last month.

As FLW understands it, Grant is already closing in on his first two signings in charge of Huddersfield ahead of this summer's upcoming transfer window.

Sources close to FLW have revealed that Huddersfield are poised to complete the double signing in a raid of two League One rivals.

Last week, reports emerged linking the Terriers with a move for Low, who was of interest to both Plymouth Argyle and Swansea City in the January window and is believed to have a number of suitors in the Championship.

The two-cap Welsh international enjoyed yet another strong campaign with Wycombe, clocking up 38 League One appearances as the Chairboys secured a top-six finish.

Huddersfield's pursuit of Low has progressed, and FLW can confirm he is now closing in on a switch to West Yorkshire in what could well represent a real statement of intent from Grant's side.

The 23-year-old central defender is set to be accompanied by the arrival of Roughan, who will see his contract with current club Lincoln City expire at the end of this month.

Still aged just 21, Roughan now has three seasons as a third-tier regular under his belt and did not miss a single minute of league action for the Imps last time out.

The versatile defender's contractual situation has put suitors on red alert and FLW previously broke the news of interest from Bolton Wanderers, although all signs now suggest that Huddersfield are set to win the race.

Roughan will soon become a free agent and, should Huddersfield secure his services, they will have to pay Lincoln a development tribunal compensation fee.

That sum, given that Roughan has been with Lincoln since the age of 16, has chalked up close to 150 senior appearances at the age of 21 and is a youth international with the Republic of Ireland, would likely be in the higher regions of six figures at least.

Huddersfield Town's Joe Low, Sean Roughan transfer swoop is a statement of intent

This is exactly the sort of business that Huddersfield need to be doing to establish themselves in the promotion reckoning next year.

The signings of Low and Roughan will immediately bolster Grant's backline, but their ages bring future potential, eventual resale value and show a long-term approach to recruitment.

These deals, should they get over the line, will also weaken two league rivals, and prizing talent away from Wycombe in particular is a big statement.

Huddersfield aren't looking to mess around this summer and have displayed real ambition by progressing forward with deals of this kind.
