Exclusive: Everton turn attention to signing Norwich City 22-year-old | OneFootball

Everton have joined the race to sign Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 22-year-old is being targeted by the Toffees as they continue their search to find a new centre-half before the window shuts on 5 October.

A source at Goodison Park has told Football Insider that the Merseyside club are now set to make contact with Norwich over a possible deal for Godfrey.

This site revealed earlier today that Fulham are also keen on the England Under-21 international and have made an approach to the Championship club.

However, it is understood that Canaries manager Daniel Farke is reluctant to sell the centre-half as he regards him as vital to the club’s hopes of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Godfrey, who has three years remaining on his contract at Carrow Road, has started all three of Norwich’s Championship games of the 2020/21 campaign.

He made 30 league starts last season and made a strong impression despite the Canaries finishing bottom of the table.

Along with Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell, Godfrey has been regularly touted with an exit from Norwich following the club’s relegation from the Premier League this summer.

Everton have made moves to sign Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori on loan and Torino’s Gleison Bremer permanently but neither deal is close, Football Insider understands.

Michael Keane and Yerry Mina have started the season at the heart of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence in the absence of the injured Mason Holgate.

Godfrey would become the Toffees fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Allan, James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Niels Nkounkou.
