Discovery+ and Quest pundit Jobi McAnuff believes Middlesbrough have pulled off a smart piece of recruitment with the signing of Neil Taylor.

The left-back had been a free agent after being released by Aston Villa at the end of last season, following a four-and-a-half-year spell in the Midlands.

However, Taylor is now back in the game, after it was announced last week that the 32-year-old has signed a short-term deal with Middlesbrough, keeping him at The Riverside Stadium initially until January.

That deal is likely to see Taylor offer some welcome cover for ‘Boro on the left-hand side of their defence.

Taylor also arrives at Middlesbrough – who are now under the management of Chris Wilder – with a wealth of experience.

Which club do these 22 rarely seen former Middlesbrough players now play for?

The defender has made almost 150 Premier League appearances in his career, and has won promotion from the Championship with both Villa and Swansea City in the past.

Now it seems that McAnuff is confident that this can prove to be a useful piece of business for ‘Boro.

Asked whether he thought Taylor would be a good signing for Wilder’s side, the former Crystal Palace and Reading midfielder exclusively told Football League World:

“Absolutely. He’s obviously a player with a wealth of experience, someone who’s played at a really good level.

“Clearly Chris Wilder wants to come in and put his stamp on things, and sometimes that’s by bringing players in.

“So I think it’s a good bit of business. Certainly from Middlesbrough’s point of view they’re getting a really good player and someone who is going to in and enhance that team and squad and give it that bit more depth.”
