Don Goodman has spoken exclusively to Football League world about the Robins' chances of promotion next season.
Don Goodman has weighed in on Swindon Town making a push for promotion next season, following their remarkable turnaround under Ian Holloway in 2024/25.
This campaign was one that had many Robins fans fearing relegation to the National League after a dismal start, and while their veteran manager did make a few mistakes in his opening weeks at the club, his experience has been crucial in helping them to safety.
League Two has become a division that nobody at the County Ground wanted to call home in recent seasons, and the Wiltshire outfit have found themselves sliding down the table over the course of the last three years.
However, Holloway has managed to stem the flow of frustration, and Swindon have been one of the fourth tier's strongest sides since the ex-Blackpool and QPR boss took over, leading to high hopes for next season.
The Robins' turnaround in the last few months has been something to behold, and had they been in this form over the entirety of the campaign, they would be involved in the fight for the play-offs in League Two.
Nevertheless, the most important thing for the club was ensuring that they stayed in the division and did not become the second team to have played in the Premier League to drop out of the EFL, as Oldham Athletic did in 2022.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Don Goodman has backed Swindon to be involved in the fight for promotion next season under Holloway, following on from the incredible job that he has done in 2024/25.
He told FLW: "I think, given what Ian Holloway’s achieved in a pretty short space of time, you'd have to back him to get Swindon Town towards the top end of League Two next season.
"I think I saw an interview with him recently where there are lots of players whose contracts are up and that he was going to be having a really good look at who he wanted to keep and where he felt the squad needed improving."
Goodman concluded: "So yes, is the answer to your question. I would think, given what he's done in a very short space of time at Swindon and in terms of turning that club, that team, those results completely round, then you'd have to back him to do well next season."
The 2020s has not been a strong decade for Swindon, and supporters will be hoping that their team is finally starting to turn the corner after falling lower and lower each season.
Holloway is an extremely cunning manager, as proven during his time with Blackpool when he took the Seasiders to the Premier League.
This will come in extremely useful for the Robins, as there will be clubs with bigger budgets and more star power already in their team for the next campaign, but most do not have someone in the dugout with the experience of the 62-year-old, and ultimately, that could prove to be the difference.
