Exclusive: Darren Bent up in arms over ‘Biggest’ problem for Leeds after transfer development | OneFootball

Darren Bent claimed the biggest problem facing Leeds United was being able to attract players to join on loan in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Premier League striker pinpointed the issue for the Whites while discussing the latest development in the club’s pursuit of Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster.

Football Insider recently revealed that Swansea City and Huddersfield Town had leapfrogged Leeds in the race for the Reds forward as they’re better positioned to make him a regular starter.

Bent explained that when you consider a player like Brewster’s biggest aim is to regularly play when going on loan then Leeds have a problem as players will know they’ll have to wait to get opportunities.

When asked if Leeds have a big dilemma if they can’t attract someone like Brewster ahead of other teams as it may be because Eddie Nketiah’s lack of minutes puts youngsters off joining on loan, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah and that’s the biggest problem for Leeds.

“Bielsa has a set eleven who are flying and doing really well, so you’d have to bide your time.

“But look at Nketiah’s situation, Bamford went eight or nine games without getting a goal, Nketiah was coming on all the time, scoring, and yet was still not getting any starts, so that’s probably doing them no favours.

“If Brewster is not going to be guaranteed game time…if you’re at a big club like he is with Liverpool and you go out on loan, the most important thing is to get game time.

“Whether that is at the top-end of the Championship or anywhere in the Championship, if you’re a defender in the bottom-half, it doesn’t matter as you going to be on the back-foot and get to defend.

“But the most important thing about a loan is getting game time, there’s no point going somewhere and not getting minutes.

“And Brewster needs to start getting games.”

Brewster has appeared twice for Liverpool’s senior side this season with him featuring in the EFL Cup in the wins against Arsenal and MK Dons.

The 19-year-old is yet to score a goal for the Reds’ first-team but has shown prolific form while playing for their U-23s side as he has grabbed four goals in seven Premier League 2 outings this season.
