Darren Bent claims that Tottenham defender Danny Rose could pull a U-turn and leave the club before the end of his contract if a big-money offer is tabled for his signature.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the full-back targeted chairman Daniel Levy with his comments on his future.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Rose insisted that the Lilywhites are looking to push him out the door but that he will be remaining in north London until his contract runs out until 2021.
Despite Rose’s insistence on his future plans, Bent says that the 29-year-old could change his mind if a European powerhouse come in for his signing over the next three transfer windows.
Bent told Football Insider: “Listen, I think if a big club comes in for him I don’t think he’s going to stay there.
“If a big club comes in, offers him to double his money, playing in the Champions League again and he’s their left-back, of course. If one of these superpower clubs, even a club like Chelsea…
“If Chelsea come in for him, I think he’d go but the problem is, Spurs, are they going to sell to Chelsea? Probably not. For me, that is why I think he’s directed that at Daniel Levy.”
Rose has played 11 times for Spurs already this season, missing just three of the club’s Premier League fixtures as he battles it out with Ben Davies for a starting role.
He has a total of 209 appearances under his belt since arriving in north London from Leeds United, while he has picked up 29 England caps as well.
In other Tottenham news, Danny Mills has tipped a player with just two starts for the club to become a mainstay under Pochettino.
