Danny Mills claimed Leeds United must seal a permanent exit for defender Laurens De Bock as there’s no point keeping him.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Leeds full-back admitted that he thought the Whites should cut their losses as if the 27-year-old doesn’t want to be at the club, the best thing to do is move him on.

De Bock was on loan at Sunderland for the season but the club’s manager Phil Parkinson recently revealed the left-back’s spell had been cut short as he is homesick.

The Sunderland boss explained that De Bock wants to return to Belgium so the decision for his loan to come to a premature end was due to personal reasons rather than Leeds cutting his deal short.

Mills admitted that not every move works out for a player and the best thing for Marcelo Bielsa’s side to do is to seal the potentially unhappy defender’s exit ASAP.

When asked if Leeds must seal an exit for De Bock ASAP with the Sunderland boss saying the player wants a return to Belgium, Mills told Football Insider: “Yeah, there’s no point keeping him as if a player isn’t wanted at the club and he doesn’t want to be there.

“The best thing is, like any business deal, is you cut your losses a little bit and you move players on.

“Not everything works, there’s no point hanging onto him if he’s unhappy and doesn’t want to be here, so the best thing is to move him on.”

De Bock struggled to feature for Sunderland while on loan with the League One club, as he managed to rack only 10 appearances.

The Belgium full-back joined Leeds from Club Brugge in January 2018 and his contract with the Whites isn’t set to expire until 2022.
