Lee Hendrie has urged Coventry City to complete the signing of Fulham prospect Martial Godo.

Lee Hendrie has urged Coventry City to complete the signing of Fulham winger Martial Godo, as the Sky Blues launch a bid for the 22-year-old.

The London-born winger hasn't experienced much senior football in his career thus far, with just a loan spell at Wigan Athletic and a handful of appearances for the Fulham first team.

However, having made his Premier League debut last term, Godo has found himself the subject of a bid from Championship promotion-hopefuls Coventry, in what could be an excellent move for him.

With Marco Silva's side pursuing other wide targets, the former England youth international could be keen to make a move away from Craven Cottage, as he looks to secure more regular minutes to help his development.

The Premier League side are still considering the Sky Blues' bid for Godo, as manager Frank Lampard is keen to add to his attacking arsenal before the transfer window closes on September 1st.

After it was reported by the Evening Standard that Coventry had made a bid for Godo, Football League World spoke exclusively to Sky Sports pundit Hendrie, and asked him what he thought of a potential deal to bring the Fulham starlet to the CBS Arena.

Hendrie told FLW in response: "This will be the type of player that obviously Frank [Lampard] has been linked with in Godo from Fulham.

"I think the style and the formation that Frank plays at Coventry, they are very used to getting their wide players on the ball. People who are direct and can produce good quality in forward areas.

"I think they've shown that over seasons and I think he'd be a real good signing for them. He's still a young man. Obviously, he's had his loan spells away from the football club at Wigan.

"I think he'd flourish under Frank, I really do, and he's very keen on getting him to the football club, but it'd be a really exciting addition to the club. I really do feel so," the former Aston Villa star concluded.

Fulham's Martial Godo could flourish under Frank Lampard at Coventry City

As mentioned, Godo has struggled for senior minutes in recent years, having not been sent on a loan spell last season, and making just a handful of appearances for Fulham's first team.

With the London club reportedly weighing up other options on the wings, such as Shakhtar Donetsk's Kevin, any chance of the 22-year-old gaining more minutes this season will diminish if they successfully land one of their wide targets.

Hendrie mentioned that the way Lampard's Coventry operates is reliant on getting wide players on the ball, and breaking down defences with pace and technique, which is what Godo is excellent at.

The technically-gifted wide-man impressed during a loan spell in League One with Wigan Athletic two seasons ago, in which he posted four goals and five assists in his first bout of consistent senior football, and will have only developed since then through continual exposure to a strong Premier League first team in West London.

With that in mind, he could absolutely flourish with the Sky Blues. Gaining consistent playing time in a system which suits his strength could help him develop his game even further, if opportunities are unlikely to arise at Craven Cottage.
