Chelsea held an internal recruitment meeting on Sunday to decide which way they are going to go for a new centre back this transfer window.
As you would have heard about many times in the last days, The Blues are prioritising a new centre back this window, but they are deciding on which option to go for.
There could be an option to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan move at Crystal Palace. And there is also reported interest in Chalobah’s current defensive team mate at Palace, Marc Guehi. Other names have also been linked and other options are being explored.
Chalobah seems like the easiest and cheapest option for Chelsea right now, but it would perhaps be an odd move seeing as they completely froze him out in pre-season, didn’t let him go on the pre-season tour, and didn’t even give him a squad number. It would be some turnaround.

Our own writer Simon Phillips put out the exclusive on his Substack site this morning.
He says:
‘SPTC sources can exclusively reveal that internal talks happened amongst Chelsea’s decision makers yesterday [Sunday 12th Jan] regarding new centre backs.
‘They once again discussed and debated bringing Trevoh Chalobah back from his loan move at Crystal Palace. The player is ‘more than open’ to a Chelsea return.
‘And speaking of players who are open to returning to Chelsea, Marc Guehi was also discussed in these same internal conversations yesterday. SPTC sources have heard that Chelsea have recommended Guehi to ‘push for the move’ this month for it to happen. It is unclear at this point whether the player will do that or not.’
