Posh were mulling over a £1m approach from Fulham for the former Aston Villa trainee, but now the Bhoys have entered the race for the left-back.

The 19-year-old left-back enjoyed a breakthrough 2024/25 season at the Weston Homes Stadium, making 17 total appearances and bagging two goals as well as one assist in all competitions.

Celtic join Fulham in transfer race for Peterborough United defender Harley Mills

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have entered the race to sign Peterborough United defender Harley Mills and have tabled an approach for the teenager, Football League World understands.

Mills was playing on loan at National League South side Enfield Town at the start of last season, but was called back to his parent club in November.

He managed to cement a spot in Darren Ferguson’s side during the second half of the campaign, and bagged a brilliant free-kick in their EFL Trophy Final win against League One title-winning Birmingham City.

That raised his profile and sent the scouts flocking to see Ferguson’s men.

Scouts from north of the border had been interested in Kwame Poku - and a massive fight has developed over the 23-year-old forward who is now out of contract.

But Mills has taken their eye too, and the Scottish giants want competition within their first-team set up which might tilt the balance in their favour.

Fulham wanted the defender to continue his development as part of their Under-23 set-up.

Posh have offered the player improved terms, but now he has to weigh up where his future lies after the two clubs came calling.

Peterborough United will surely loath to lose another promising young left-back again this summer

There must be something in the water down at the Weston Homes Stadium, as the club have seemingly mastered the art of producing quality young left-backs.

Harrison Burrows was sold to Sheffield United last summer for a reported initial fee of £3m, with a further £3m in performance-related add-ons.

As such, the emergence of Mills in the second half of the 2024/25 season has seemingly handed Posh Burrows' long-term successor, and once again reaffirmed their reputation as having one of the best production lines for young talent in the EFL.

Therefore, despite interest from Premier League clubs and now Glaswegian giants Celtic potentially being very tough for both the club and player to turn down, Peterborough will surely not want to be searching for yet another starting left-back ahead of the 25/26 campaign.

However, whilst they remain a League One club, retaining the services of their best young talent will continue to prove extremely difficult, as they've learnt once again this summer with the departures of the aforementioned Poku, as well as Hector Kyprianou and Ricky-Jade Jones respectively.
