Interest is growing in Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge – with Brighton and multiple other Premier League clubs facing competition from France and Germany – but any deal will have to reflect the concerns about his long-term fitness, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the 2022/23 Championship season, scoring twice in three games, and sources have informed FLW that he is in demand as a result.

Brighton are one of multiple Premier League clubs keen on Berge but there is thought to be stronger interest from teams in France and Germany.

However, FLW understands that any deal will have to reflect the concerns held by the sides in pursuit about the Blades midfielder’s long-term fitness.

Berge has had his injury problems since the Yorkshire club signed him from Genk for around £20 million in January 2020 – featuring just 70 times in total for them.

Reports elsewhere have indicated that United are looking for a fee similar to what they paid for him two and a half years ago and have rejected an initial offer of £12.5 million from Belgian side Club Brugge.

The Norway international still has two years left on his current deal at Bramall Lane and Paul Heckingbottom has made it clear he is keen to keep hold of him.
