Blackpool are set to win the race over Hull City to sign ex-Millwall forward Duncan Watmore, FLW understands.
Blackpool are set to win the race ahead of Hull City to sign ex-Millwall forward Duncan Watmore, Football League World has exclusively been informed.
The Tangerines are looking to improve upon their ninth-placed finish in League One last season, as Steve Bruce's side aim to seal a return to the Championship for the first time since their 2023 relegation.
Hull City, on the other hand, are entering a new era in 25/26 under the management of Sergej Jakirovic, who will be attempting to steer the Tigers clear of relegation danger once again next season despite some testing times at the MKM Stadium both on and off the pitch.
It was revealed by journalist Alan Nixon reporting via his Patreon account last weekend that both Blackpool and Hull City were eyeing moves for free agent forward, Duncan Watmore.
The 31-year-old left Millwall following the expiration of his contract this summer, having joined the Lions back in January 2023 from Middlesbrough.
However, it appears he has now chosen where he'll be playing his football for 25/26, and perhaps beyond that too.
Football League World has exclusively been informed that it's Blackpool who are set to land his signature ahead of Hull City this summer.
We have exclusively been informed that the former Sunderland man is in fact already training with the Seasiders, and as such, looks set to be announced as a Blackpool player imminently.
Having seen the likes of Rob Apter, Sonny Carey and Jordan Rhodes leave the club this summer, Blackpool have seen some key attacking contributors depart Bloomfield Road.
Therefore, despite the recent arrivals of Emil Hansson and Malcolm Ebiowei - both of whom remain unproven at League One level - Bruce could surely do with another experienced and versatile forward to sharpen his cutting edge in attack.
Watmore would certainly tick those boxes, and at 31, is by no means in the twilight of his career just yet.
Despite enduring significant injury problems throughout his career, Watmore has been able to make 60 Championship appearances for Millwall over the last two seasons, and could be a real star player for a League One side with promotion ambitions such as Blackpool.
Capable of playing anywhere across the forward line, Watmore would be that Swiss Army Knife-type option that Bruce could ask to operate in a variety of positions and roles, with those sorts of players often proving to be worth their weight in gold - especially over the course of a long and testing EFL season.
Therefore, on a free transfer no less, Watmore would surely be a gamble well worth taking by the Tangerines.
