Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic looks set to be denied a deadline-day move to Werder Bremen, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
This site reported earlier today that the two clubs had opened talks over a deadline-day move after Jurgen Klopp gave the green light for the 24-year-old to leave.
However, a recruitment source has now told Football Insider that negotiations have stalled and, barring a late U-turn, he is set remain at Anfield.
It was understood that both permanent and loan options were on the table for Grujic.
The midfielder was identified by Bremen as a potential replacement for Davy Klaassen who returned to Ajax today.
He has failed to make any of Liverpool’s matchday squads in the Premier League this season, including last night’s 7-2 humiliation at Aston Villa.
But the Serbian started both the Reds League Cup games last month, playing the full 90 minutes against Arsenal and Lincoln City.
Grujic, who was Klopp’s first ever signing for Liverpool in January 2016, has failed to establish himself in a competitive Reds midfield since joining.
He has made just 16 appearances for the Premier League champions having enjoyed loan spells at Red Star Belgrade, Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin.
The centre-midfielder impressed during his time in Germany, scoring nine goals in 54 appearances for Hertha Berlin which subsequently attracted the interest of Werder Bremen.
The eight-time Serbia international still has three years remaining on his contract at Anfield having penned a new five-year deal in 2018.
