Exclusive: Arsenal Willing to Trigger £30m Clause to Sign Premier League Forward

With the summer transfer window on the horizon, clubs are already starting to initiate talks over potential signings. None more so than Arsenal, who are expected to have a busy window after falling short in the Premier League title race to Liverpool.

There are a number of positions already being considered by the hierarchy. The Gunners have already held talks with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi and are leading the race to sign the Spaniard on a £51million deal. A defender is also being considered and EPL Index understand that Jorell Hato is a name towards the top of the list in that department.

Mikel Arteta is also keen to strengthen in the centre-forward area, with not just one but two signings to add quality and depth to a front line that has struggled for form and fitness throughout the season.

Both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are sidelined with long-term injuries at the moment and there is a belief that those options can be improved on despite the hefty fees paid to bring them to the club.

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is adored by Arsenal and there has been regular contact between the two clubs. The Swedish forward is expected to cost around £55million this summer.

However, EPL Index sources understand that whilst talks have been held over the signing of Gyokeres, the Gunners are also keen on signing Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.

Arsenal’s Double Striker Plans

A double swoop for both Gyokeres and Delap is certainly possible this summer, with both players expected to leave their clubs for reasonable fees.

Following Ipswich Town’s relegation from the Premier League, Delap has a release clause worth £30m that will become active in June. Due to the cut-price, Arsenal aren’t alone in their interest as Chelsea and Manchester United are both pushing heavily to sign the 22-year-old striker this summer.

However, those clubs could offer the former Man City forward the prospect of starting games consistently, which Arsenal would likely not be able to should they sign Gyokeres too.

Delap’s Impressive Debut Season

Despite Ipswich Town’s struggles and relegation, Delap still managed 12 goals and two assists in his debut Premier League campaign.

It’s not only his impressive goal tally that has caught the eye though, with his physical presence and pressing ability also standing out.

For the price of £30m, whoever signs Delap is getting a very good deal and Arsenal are certainly keen on signing the striker.

However, it remains to be seen whether personal terms can be agreed with the Gunners as Chelsea and Man United continue to push hard for his signature.
