Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly keen to renew James Beadle’s time at the club beyond this season.

According to Alan Nixon, the Owls are hoping to hold talks with parent club Brighton over potentially extending his loan stay at Hillsborough.

The goalkeeper joined the Championship side last January, and played a role in helping the club remain in the second tier.

He featured 19 times in the second division following his move to Sheffield Wednesday, conceding 24 and keeping eight clean sheets (all stats from Fbref).

No decision has yet been made on his immediate future, with the 19-year-old now set to return to Brighton following last week’s final fixture of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit: James Beadle is exactly what Owls need next season

FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Callum Maxted believes it would make sense for the club to pursue a move for Beadle again this summer, especially if Cameron Dawson departs.

He has praised the teenager’s continued improvement last season, suggesting he would be a great signing for Danny Rohl’s team.

“I think Beadle is exactly what we’ll need for next season at the minute,” Maxted told Football League World.

“We’ll obviously need to bring in a permanent solution anyway if Cameron Dawson doesn’t sign another contract, but I think getting Beadle back and him being number one for at least next season is exactly what we need.

“He’s improved week-on-week, and he’s just consistently getting better.

“The way we play, the passing that he’s been doing has really improved him and I think that’s really important and would be really important for us next season if we can do it.”

James Beadle's impressive season for Sheffield Wednesday

Beadle spent the first half of the campaign on loan with League One side Oxford United, where he played a role in the club’s promotion push.

While he left the U’s in January to sign for Sheffield Wednesday, he still helped the side reach the League One play-offs this season.

He will now be hoping to continue playing consistently again next year, whether with the Owls or elsewhere.

A move back to Hillsborough could be on the cards given Brighton already have Jason Steele and Bart Verbruggen to choose from between the sticks in Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.

James Beadle, Sheffield Wednesday loan move would make sense for all parties

It’s unlikely that Beadle will be a part of De Zerbi's first team plans next year, so another loan to Sheffield Wednesday should suit all parties.

This will allow him to continue developing and improving under Rohl, and can help the Yorkshire outfit to focus on making squad improvements elsewhere.

The youngster is still only 19 so has plenty of time to prove himself ready for life in the Premier League.

Competing for a full campaign in the Championship would be excellent for his career at this stage, and the chance to work under Rohl again would also be a great opportunity, and he should improve no end having already showed promising signs in his original half-season at Hillsborough.
