Striker Marko Arnautovic could be in the Inter Milan starting eleven for their Serie A clash with Monza after the international break.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They anticipate that he could start alongside Marcus Thuram in attack.
There’s now one week to go before Inter return to action in Serie A.
And Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is thinking about how he’ll set up his attack next Sunday away to Monza.
Inter will be right back into the thick of it once the international break is over.
After their trip to Monza, there is a massive Champions League away match to Manchester City, and then the derby against AC Milan.
And according to the Corriere, Inzaghi is likely to want to start Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram in both of those two matches.
But that could change the coach’s thinking for the match against Monza.
Inzaghi could aim to keep at least one of the two first-choice starters fresh in the match against the Brianzoli.
Of Inter’s forwards, only Joaquin Correa is currently in training. The rest are all on international duty during the break.
Both of Arnautovic and Thuram will be back on Tuesday though.
On the other hand, Inter captain Martinez will only return on Thursday. The Argentine’s last international commitment is a match against Colombia that will be in the middle of the night in on Tuesday in Italian time.
And it is a similar story for Mehdi Taremi. Like Martinez, he will be back in Inter training on Thursday following a long transatlantic flight.
Accordingly, there may be some doubts about the sharpness of those two strikers.
For this reason, the Corriere reports, there is a good chance that Inzaghi will decide to go with Arnautovic and Thuram from the start next weekend against Monza.
Then, the coach can preserve the fitness of Martinez and Taremi.
