Former Juventus and West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio feels that Inter Milan are “in a category of their own” in Serie A.
The former Italian international gave his thoughts on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.
Inter have just about gotten their season off to the start that they’d hoped to.
After an early stumble drawing away to Genoa, the Nerazzurri have found their groove.
In their second match of the campaign, Inter beat Lecce. It was more of a businesslike victory than an emphatic one. But the Nerazzurri looked convincing and in control.
Then, Inter headed into the international break on a major high note.
The Nerazzurri demolished Atalanta 4-0.
This was the first match between two teams from last season’s Serie A top four. And Inter produced an emphatic performance with a one-sided result.
It looks as though Inter are picking up where they left off last season, when they won the title by a margin of nearly twenty points.
As far as the Serie A title race goes, Di Canio argued that “Inter are in a category of their own.”
“They have continuity with a coach who has grown a lot,” the former striker continued.
“And they’ve brought in players who will function very well in their system.”
Di Canio predicted, “I don’t know if they’ll finish with a gap of eight, ten, fifteen points. But I see them being far ahead of the rest of the teams.”
“Maybe Juventus can build,” he went on. “But at the moment the team looks light to me, including in terms of depth options.”
“They have some interesting players,” Di Canio said of the Bianconeri.
“But it won’t be easy for them.”
“Inter are already used to it. They have a very strong team, and players who know each other well.”
