Christian Eriksen has finally worked out how to play in Antonio Conte’s unique system at Inter, according to fellow Dane and former Udinese midfielder Morten Bisgaard.

Eriksen was out of favour under Conte until the end of January, when he began getting more game time in the Nerazzurri’s midfield.

Conte started Eriksen again for Sunday’s 1-0 win at home to Cagliari and the 29-year-old helped dictate play in a complicated match at San Siro, which eventually ended in victory.

“Eriksen has spent a lot of energy adapting to Conte’s defensive structure,” Bisgaard told Danish news outlet Ekstra Bladet on Tuesday.

“It’s true that you would expect more of an attacking contribution but he has also been busy running and covering spaces for Inter.

“Inter don’t keep the ball much so it’s a completely different style of football (to what Eriksen is used to), where the two wing-backs are very important and you have Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez up front.

“The other midfielders aren’t scoring much either.

“If Inter win the Scudetto then Eriksen will have played his part; he reads games well and is an intelligent player.

“He’s done what the team needed from him.”

Eriksen seemed almost certain to leave Inter in January, when he was being linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur and a possible loan move to Leicester City.

He has since resurrected his career with the Nerazzurri though, with the turning point perhaps coming in the 2-1 Coppa Italia quarter-final win over AC Milan.

Eriksen came off the bench to defeat the Rossoneri with a 97th-minute free-kick.
