Frank McAvennie insists Arsenal will continue to struggle in their bid to sign quality players this summer.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the Gunners missing out on two transfer targets.

On Thursday (10th June), Aston Villa confirmed the signing of Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City.

On 6th June, Football Insider revealed Buendia had turned down a move to Arsenal so he could join Villa.

On 8th June, this site also revealed Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has told friends he will join Leicester this summer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider there was strong interest from West Ham, who led the race at one stage, and Arsenal.

McAvennie insists the Gunners will continue to miss out on transfer targets as the club is not an attractive option.

“Arsenal have never been that much of an attractive option to me,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They have too many duds. They have a lot of players who think they are better than they actually are.

“Half of their team is like that. They all think they are superstars and they aren’t. Really, they aren’t even close.

“They don’t play together, they aren’t really a team. The gap is getting further between them and those top clubs.

“Why would a decent player want to join that?”

The Gunners finished eighth in the Premier League last season.

It was Mikel Arteta’s first full season at the club after taking the job halfway through the previous campaign.
