Former Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares believes that current Los Che shot-stopper Giorgio Mamardashvili has what it takes for Inter Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, the former Real Madrid, Celta Vigo, and Valenvia man and Spanish international gave glowing praise of Mamardashvili, as well as suggesting that it wouldn’t be a bad piece of business for Inter to accept €60 million for Andre Onana.

22-year-old Georgian international Mamardashvili is one of the main names to have emerged as a possible replacement for Onana should Inter decide to sell the Cameroonian.

The Nerazzurri could accept a bid from Manchester United should the Premier League giants offer a high enough fee.

In that case, they will have to hope that they can identify a suitable replacement.

For his part, former Valencia keeper Canizares believes that Mamardashvili would be the right kind of profile.

The Georgian has not only been linked with Inter. Premier League giants Chelsea have also been among Mamardashvili’s high-profile suitors.

And, for his part, Canizares believes that Mamardashvili has the talent to have a great career ahead of him.

“He’s a great goalkeeper, he’s a very high-level player,” Canizares said.

“And then in addition to that he’s very young,” the former keeper continued. “Goalkeepers improve year on year, so I couldn’t tell you what level he could reach.”

“If he keeps improving at the current rate, it’s impossible to say how good he could get.”

“He could be a very interesting target for any European club,” Canizares said of Mamardashvili.

“And then the position that his club are in mean that it’s natural that he’d be on the transfer market,” he added.

Canizares also gave his thoughts on the possibility of Inter selling Onana.

“I think that €60 million would be an excellent fee for him,” he said. “That would be a high price for any goalkeeper, not just Onana.”

“When you’re talking about those kinds of numbers, then you can just go out and sign another great goalkeeper. For example Mamardashvili.”
