Former Sheffield United midfielder Don Hutchison has backed Sander Berge to keep on getting better following the Blades’ 3-1 victory over Wrexham in the FA Cup fourth round replay last night.

Berge played the full match for United, getting himself on the scoresheet in the 96th minute to secure the club’s place in the fifth round next month.

Indeed, the Blades are now scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur at Bramall Lane in the next round of the competition on March 1st.

Speaking on social media after the match, though, Hutchison cast a potential dig at some of the Premier League sides who failed to snap him up in January, perhaps suggesting they may regret not doing so in the future.

On Twitter, Hutchison wrote: “And to think some prem clubs could have got him for only 20 million in January 🤷🏽‍♂️.”

“He can 💯 (100 percent) go up a few levels.”

A host of Premier League sides were said to be interested in the Norwegian midfielder during the winter transfer window, with Newcastle United, Fulham and Brighton  all linked with January moves for the 24-year-old in recent weeks.

Recent reports have suggested that Berge will now play out the remaining 18 months of his contract at Bramall Lane before becoming a free agent in summer 2024.

The Verdict

I think Don Hutchison is absolutely spot on here.

Sander Berge can definitely still get better moving forwards and Blades supporters will be hoping that takes place at Bramall Lane.

How true Hutchinson’s claim that Premier League sides could have signed him for £20 million last month are remain to be seen.

However, if that were true, that fee will surely look a bargain in a year or two once the Norwegian hits his prime and starts to make a name for himself in the top flight.
