AC Milan have made an astute purchase by making the decision to secure Marko Lazetic from Red Star Belgrade, according to former Serbian goalkeeper Vlada Avramov.

Mozzart Sport in Serbia report that some smaller details remain to be agreed, but Milan have offered two instalments totalling €4m plus €1m in bonuses and 10% of the proceeds from a future resale, which has been accepted by Red Star as it was better than the bid they got from Torino.

Avramov spoke during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport about Lazetic, a player that he knows well, and his endorsement of the operation could not have been more emphatic which is music to the ears of Milan.

“Today he is the best player at Red Star, he has physical and technical skills. We’ve seen his potential enough to say that at eighteen he is the star of the team. He has everything a top-tier footballer should have, technically very good, and also something that cannot be seen from the outside,” he said (via MilanNews).

“He comes from a family of great sportsmen, a volleyball playing father, his uncles are former professional footballers. They follow him, directing him with the right advice. He has sport in his DNA, he knows how to behave. It is no coincidence that on the pitch it doesn’t look like an 18-year-old, but much, much more mature.”

There are certainly some similarities in the path that Lazetic is expected to follow when compared with his compatriot Dusan Vlahovic. He was also a teenager when he made the decision to leave the Serbian capital (albeit having previously been a Partizan player) and try a new experience in Italy, where he is now regarded by many to be the best striker in the league.

Avramov believes that Lazetic can draw inspiration from Vlahovic’s choice, and that it is not too early for him to move across to Serie A but rather the best decision for his development.

“It is in Italy where you learn tactics and definitively structure your body. The sooner a young player arrives, the better. And then he knows the environment, and trust me: those who play at the Marakana are already trained to pressure, they won’t be scared even in front of the San Siro.

“Could he be the new Vlahovic? Absolutely yes. Dusan is devastating, but Marko can repeat his career. They did well. Milan to get there even before everyone wanted to, as happens today with Vlahovic.”
