Former Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé has sparked controversy in France after Didier Deschamps left the 25-year-old out of the squad for this FIFA international window’s UEFA Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium.
Mbappé is currently recovering from a thigh injury, which likely contributed to his exclusion, but it wasn’t the only reason. He was included in the squad for the Villarreal match and even started the game before the international window.
This has sparked considerable criticism in France, especially since Mbappé is the captain and is expected to be available when fully fit. Now, a new report is causing more stir in the country.
According to Foot Mercato, Mbappé had already made it clear during the last gathering that he did not wish to participate in this international break with the French team. The forward spoke openly about it, and the French team was aware.
Mbappé has made the 2025 Ballon d’Or his priority and would ideally like to only play the important matches with the French team to avoid any risk of injury.
It will be interesting to see how the French media reacts, but as captain of Les Bleus it’s not a good look.
