Kenwyne Jones is comfortably one of the best strikers from Trinidad and Tobago ever to play in the Premier League.
In fact, he’s one of his country’s greatest ever players and on Monday he announced that his stellar career had come to an end.
Jones posted on social media to let the world know that he will not be signing with another after being released by Atlanta United in MLS.
Jones began his career at the wonderfully-named Joe Public in Trinidad and he impressed enough in his native country to earn a move to Southampton in 2004.
He was part of the Trinidad and Tobago squad that competed at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and he really established himself in the Premier League after moving to Sunderland in 2007.
His time at Sunderland, during which he scored 26 Premier League goals, would prove to be the most fruitful of his career.
Jones went on to have more mixed spells at Stoke City, Cardiff, Bournemouth and several other clubs before an underwhelming final season with Atlanta United.
He also captained his national team and won the Trinidad and Tobago player of the year award three times.
He ends his career as his country’s sixth most-capped player and sixth highest-goalscorer and will be remembered as a true legend of the islands.
