Lack of experience could see Tottenham miss out on PL title, claims Andy Cole

Speaking on talkSPORT, as relayed by the Express, former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has warned Tottenham that the lack of experience could hurt the club’s title ambitions this season.

Spurs moved to the top of the Premier League standings this past weekend after Jose Mourinho pulled off a tactical masterclass to defeat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 2-0.

The form that our players are in currently, coupled with our current standing in the table, has led to talks of a potential tilt at the league title this season.

However, Cole has claimed that the lack of the title-winning experience within the squad could bring the club’s downfall this season. (h/t Express)

“If I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t think they can. To win the Premier League, as we all know it’s over 38 games and you’re going to have ups and downs. “But when you get to that period where you need those results, you need people who have been there, that little bit of experience. If you look at the Tottenham team, they’ve not been there.”

Cole then went on to cite the 2015/16 campaign when Tottenham came close to winning the title only for the challenge to falter late in the season as Leicester City ended up becoming champions. (h/t Express)

“When they had a great opportunity when they were up against Leicester, they slowly fell away. I thought that was their best chance of winning the Premier League.”

It is true that experience will count for a lot in the title race, more so considering the weird season that 2020/21 has been so far. However, one must not forget that the likes of Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld, Son Heung-min, Eric Dier were all part of that side that lost out to Leicester a few years ago and will have learnt from the experience.

In addition, in Jose Mourinho, we have a manager that has been there and done it several times. So, rule out Tottenham at your own peril.
