Former Premier League footballer Keith Gillespie has suggested that Harvey Elliott could feature for the Liverpool first-team next season, depending on what the Reds want to do for his progression.
The young attacker spent this season on loan at Blackburn Rovers and did a really impressive job there, looking well at home in the Championship.
Indeed, that’s naturally sparked questions over whether he’ll get a shot for Liverpool next season and, for Gillespie, there’s certainly a chance that could happen.
Speaking to This Is Futbol, he said:
“He looks a fantastic player. One we know is going to end up an England player and be at Liverpool for a long time.
“It depends what Liverpool want to do, whether they think he needs that one more year for that education and playing regular week in out week because he could come back to Liverpool, and he could be one of those who comes straight into the side but only plays once every five games.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Certainly, Elliott had a really impressive season at Blackburn and it seems clear that he now needs to be playing in the Premier League to keep learning to give himself a chance of getting the best from his obvious talent.
It’s easy to forget how young he is and so there needs to be a bit of caution in terms of playing him every week as he’ll potentially feel it in the long-term but there can be no doubt that he’s good enough to be playing in the top-flight next season.
Will that be with Liverpool? This summer will let us know as to whether he gets another loan.
