Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola feels that Inter’s Coppa Italia triumph over Juventus last Wednesday was decided by the substitutions made by the two teams.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, Vieri gave the view that the Nerazzurri just about deserved their victory but that it came down to the changes made by the two coaches.

After going ahead early on in the final, the Nerazzurri found themselves overrun for long periods by the Bianconeri who eventually took a deserved 2-1 lead following two goals in quick succession in the second half.

At first Inter were not able to get a foothold in the match as they searched for an equalizer, but eventually they began to dominate and they forced extra time with a penalty, and then went on two win 4-2.

Ventola feels that the course of the match turned on the coaches turning to their bench to change the game in different ways.

“Over the 120 minutes Inter deserved to win the Coppa, but Juve looked better than they usually do to me,” he said.

“After going 1-0 down they created many chances, there were big saves on Vlahovic,” he added. “Juve deserved to be level in the first half, but Inter are more organized and play with more quality.”

“Juve turned the game around and then Inter didn’t give the impression that they’d be able to equalize,” he added, “but they did so when Allegri made his changes, then Inter were fortunate on the penalty episode.”

Ventola said that “Once the score was level the Juve struggled to impose themselves. Inter made the right changes, Correa came on and did well.”
