Former Inter striker Julio Cruz feels that current Nerazzurri Vice-President Javier Zanetti could play an important role in convincing Paulo Dybala to join on a free transfer from Juventus.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the Argentine emphasized the significance of Argentine legend at the Nerazzurri as a factor that could persuade Dybala.

Dybala has yet to agree on a new contract with the Bianconeri, and with his current deal set to expire at the end of June, he could be on his way during the summer transfer window for free.

The Nerazzurri would be one of the main suitors for the 28-year-old should he be available on a free transfer, and in Cruz’s view they would be potentially more convincing than their rivals for his signature due to the presence of Zanetti in particular.

Zanetti is an icon for both Inter and Argentine football, and he could play a role in convincing Dybala to make the switch.

“Argentines have always done well at Inter,” Cruz stated. “And even now he would link up with many talented compatriots who he knows well in the squad, who could help him adapt to different surroundings.”

“He’d join an attack along with countrymen Correa and Lautaro,” he went on, “but also Vice-President Javier Zanetti who would be decisive for a signing like this.”
