Legendary former Inter, Lazio, and Atletico Madrid has revealed that he made the switch from Inter to AC Milan in the summer of 2005 to try and get more playing time so he’d be ready for the 2006 World Cup.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, via FCInter1908, the former striker explained the background of his move from the Nerazzurri to their city rivals Milan.

Vieri made the move to the Rossoneri in the summer transfer window of 2005.

The striker had not been as important a player for Inter as he had been in earlier periods of his time at the club.

However, the move was still considered to be a significant one within Italian football.

As Vieri revealed on his Twitch channel, his motivation was to try and get more playing time to get ready for the World Cup, even though in the end he was not selected for the Italy squad as the Azzurri went on to win the tournament.

“I’ll tell you a story that no one else has heard,” he said.

“When I went to Milan, I left Inter to try and get more playing time ahead of the 2006 World Cup.”

“That’s why I chose Milan,” he added.

“After six months, there I deservedly didn’t play, I struggled to do everything.”
