Former Inter, AC Milan, and Juventus striker Aldo Serena feels that this evening’s Serie A clash between Inter and Roma stands a good chance of being a match with many goals, if precedent counts for anything.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Serena noted that the Nerazzurri are often able to score many goals against the Giallorossi at the San Siro, and expressed the hope that this evening’s fixture follows suit.

Inter and Roma are two of the most historical and high-profile teams in Italian football, and the pair have played out no shortage of memorable fixtures over the course of their intertwined histories.

At the San Siro, particularly, the Nerazzurri tend to be fired up for the match in front of their home fans and against one of their major rivals in Serie A.

For Serena, the hope is that this particular fixture will be an opportunity for the team to really begin to find form at just the right time in the season after looking some way off of their best in the early going of the campaign.

“There’s a big question mark on Inter this year because they no longer have the intensity of recent seasons, there are a lot of gaps appearing on the pitch,” he said.

“They’re a team that must find themselves,” he argued, “precisely by getting back that aggressive and bellicose attitude they had not very long ago.”

He noted that “Mourinho’s Roma are a formidable opponent, but there’s a history here.”

“Inter’s matches against Roma have always been exciting matches and there have always been many goals for Inter at San Siro,” he added. “Inter are playing at home, so I hope this can follow the positive precedent.”
