Legendary former Inter President Massimo Moratti believes that the Nerazzurri can recover in their Serie A campaign despite their poor start to the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, Moratti also argued that he would continue backing Simone Inzaghi as coach despite the crisis start to the season, and suggested that he feels that the Zhang family could continue on with the club.

Inter’s start to the season has only gone from bad to worse over the past few weeks, as the damaging losses have piled up.

The Nerazzurri are already a number of points behind league leaders Napoli and Napoli, as well as the likes of AC Milan and Roma among others, after only eight matches played.

However, in Moratti’s view there is still plenty of time in which to make this significant gap disappear if the team can get back on their feet.

“Without a doubt we can talk about a crisis, but we’ve yet to see the full scale of it,” he said.

“After all at the moment we’re not that far off the other big teams,” he continued.

“If the team were to recover then they would be able to quickly get back into the top places in the table,” the former President argued.

Of coach Inzaghi, Moratti said that “At the moment I think he should continue to be backed.”

“We’re still at the beginning of the season,” he noted, “few games have been played.”

“I don’t know the atmosphere within the team and the club, but at the moment I think there’s room to recover,” Moratti gave his view.

Asked if he thinks that rumours of a sale of the club by Suning could affect things on the pitch, Moratti replied “A little but, yes, but they must not be made into an excuse.” “As for the Zhang family, if they intend to continue with Inter and have the possibility to do so, they will continue on,” he added.
