Former Inter defender Francesco Colonnese feels that Inter’s dramatic win over Venezia yesterday will have been a difficult match for their major rivals in Serie A to have watched.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, Colonnese highlighted how the last-ditch winner in a tough match will have not only increased the Nerazzurri’s self-belief but also been a major source of frustration for their rivals.

Inter looked increasingly like they would have to settle for a point, as they kept pushing but lacked the decisive edge in quality to get the winner while the clock ran down against a dogged and organized Venezia team.

However, just at the moment when the match looked like it had gotten away from them, Edin Dzeko headed home from an excellent Denzel Dumfries cross to rescue all three points.

It was a dramatic moment that will make the Nerazzurri feel vindicated in their intense efforts, but will also cause the other teams hoping to displace them at the top of the table to wonder what they will have to do.

Colonnese called the win “A blow to the morale of Inter’s rivals, and a huge boost for Inter’s self-belief. Venezia were solid and tough, and the Nerazzurri didn’t quite look like themselves.”

Colonnese also spoke about the state of the San Siro pitch, stating that “It’s always been a difficult pitch, there was a bit of sand and you never quite knew which boot to choose. It’s never been a stadium with nice turf.”
