Former Inter defender Francesco Colonnese believes that the Nerazzurri showed a lack of mental strength in allowing Lazio back into the game on Saturday when they fell to a defeat at the Stadio Olimpico.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio 24, the former defender also gave the view that the Nerazzurri have not yet shown that they adequately replaced the players that they lost over the summer.

Inter looked to be in control for about an hour against Lazio, defending an early lead well while creating some presentable chances to double their advantage.

However, the Biancocelesti played their way into the match, and when they started to find their rhythm Inter had no answers, allowing them to score three goals to win and never really looking in control.

Colonnese believes that “The Nerazzurri lost their heads in an incredible way. There was the naive penalty conceded by Alessandro Bastoni, and then the team lost the plot incredibly.”

“The attitude was defensively wrong,” he went on. “Inter conceded too many goals from individual mistakes. The ball on Federico Dimarco’s action should not have been put out, because it is the referee who must stop action. Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij are two huge players who have made individual mistakes.”

Colonnese moved on to the Nerazzurri’s summer business, and he gave his reasons why he remains doubtful that the team was not weakened thanks to the losses even with the players that were brought in.

“It has been said that Inter had an excellent transfer market,” he stated. “Calm down, you have to judge for yourself and not listen to other people’s views. Denzel Dumfries cannot be stronger than Achraf Hakimi. We don’t know yet even if he is. Christian Eriksen as well gives something different from Hakan Calhanoglu.”
