Former Inter defender Daniele Adani believes that Inter may have shot themselves in the foot in the summer transfer window by going all in on the return of Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio, Adani argued that the loss of Lukaku to injury is felt acutely by this Nerazzurri team because they based so much of their plans on having him in the team.

Inter had expected to have a rejuvenated Lukaku leading the line this season, but so far they have only had the Belgian at their disposal for the first three matches.

Instead, the 29-year-old has missed a number of matches with a thigh problem, and it is not exactly clear when he will be able to return.

This has meant that, for the time being, the team is basically the same one as last season, as the club were not able to make wholesale changes in the summer whilst also bringing back Lukaku.

Adani argued that “Inter were not creative in the transfer market and have staked everything on [Lukaku].”

“When you sign Lukaku then you don’t get Dybala, when you lose Perisic and Sanchez who are good one-on-one dribblers you lose creativity.”

“Yesterday Asllani did well to take the place of Brozovic, but when I talk about dribblers I mean players who can open up a match with a moment of magic,” he elaborated.

Adani then stated that “I would also say that ideas can quickly get old if you don’t stimulate and renew them.”
