Ex-Nerazzurri Defender Daniele Adani: “Inter Must Still Extend Ivan Perisic’s Contract”

Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that the Nerazzurri should still make every effort to keep Ivan Perisic at the club beyond the summer.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Adani emphasized that the Croat remains an essential and irreplaceable part of the squad and that the club should work to renew with him.

Perisic has been one of Inter’s standout performers this season on the left side of the team, but the 32-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of June and it remains to be seen if an agreement can be found on a renewal.

The club have been spending the January transfer window both looking into players who can back up the Croat, and also long-term successors.

It remains to be seen whether Perisic will ultimately remain a part of the Nerazzurri past the summer, but in the view of Adani keeping him on could be vital.

“Before you think about signing anyone else, you have to keep the Croatian on,” he said. “Because in his position he is unique, no one can play as a wing-back the way Perisic can.”

He emphasized how the 32-year-old can be “A full-fledged striker, but with the stamina of a decathlete to cover the entire wing.”

Adani believes that “Bastoni’s growth is partly thanks to Perisic and I don’t think there’s anyone who can even act as his deputy, let alone replace him.”

And on the transfer business that he thinks Inter should do, Adani analyzed that “It depends what Inzaghi wants. I read about Caicedo, who Simone is very familiar with, after Correa’s injury.”

“If this is the coach’s request, the club has a duty to satisfy him,” he added, “because he’s earned some say in the club with the work he’s done. I’m less convinced of the need to sign a left wing-back.”
