Former Inter boss Antonio Conte has said that he left Inter when the job in hand was finished rather than partway through a project, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

Speaking during an interview with Sportweek, a magazine that is part of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian coach discussed the trends of his managerial career so far.

He pointed out that he always takes over clubs when they are lower than they should be and restores them to the top. That is why his job at Inter had come to a natural end.

“I have never been scared of challenges, it is enough for me to have even a 1% chance of winning with them to start my battle.

“I have never taken teams that had won the year before, mine are always paths of reconstruction. Juventus came from eighth place, Chelsea from tenth, Inter from fourth. I know it will take a little patience this time. In Milan I left a finished job.”

Antonio Conte very recently took over at Tottenham Hotspur who have struggled for any consistent form over the past 12 months.

It is clearly one of Antonio Conte’s toughest tests but he feels he can make it a successful team with the right support from the executives at the club, mainly the chairman Daniel Levy.

“Here I have to start all over again and getting into the current season is never easy. Levy? He has shown that he wants me at all costs.

“In his words and in the investments made, I perceived a vision: the desire to excel. I said to myself: if we combine this ability off the pitch with what I can give on the pitch, we can really set up a serious and profound team.”
