Piotr Zielinski and Stefan de Vrij are targeting returns from injury in Inter Milan’s Serie A clash with Lecce next weekend.

There were three players absent from Inter’s squad for their Serie A opener against Genoa on Saturday.

One was wingback Tajon Buchanan. The Canadian will be out for the foreseeable future as he is set to miss several months recovering from a broken leg.

However, the other two players out were both due to muscle injuries.

Both of midfielder Zielinski and defender de Vrij picked up thigh strains during preseason.

And neither of them were fit to be part of the squad for the Serie A opener.

However, returns should not be too far away for either.

Zielinski & De Vrij Target Returns In Inter Vs Lecce Serie A Clash

According to Tuttosport, both Zielinski and de Vrij spent yesterday working on their returns to fitness in training.

The rest of the Inter squad got the day off following the match against Genoa.

But Zielinski and de Vrij were busy at the training centre.

In the case of the former, the 30-year-old former Napoli midfielder is already very close to being ready.

Zielinski has recovered from his injury. It is now just a question of gaining some match sharpness for the Polish international.

On the other hand, it’s a different story for de Vrij.

The former Lazio and Feyenoord defender is still recovering from his thigh strain. He is not going to rush back.

But at the same time, de Vrij is not that far away from a return.

According to Tuttosport, there is no doubt that Zielinski will be ready for next Saturday’s Serie A match against Lecce, the first home match of the season.

On the other hand, de Vrij would be much more of a question mark.
