Former AC Milan midfielder Roberto Donadoni believes that the Rossoneri struggled to cope with the atmosphere at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Milan marked their long-awaited return to the Champions League in midweek, and they were handed the difficult task of a trip to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in what was a game between two of the most storied sides in the competition’s history.

A Fikayo Tomori own-goal gave the home side the lead as they roared into some early momentum backed by a capacity crowd, but they were left stunned when Milan took the lead through Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz.

Ultimately the Rossoneri were unable to keep the Reds at bay as they equalised just after the break through Salah and netted a winner inside the final half hour through Jordan Henderson.

Donadoni – a former Rossoneri player – commented on AC Milan’s defeat in Liverpool during an interview with Tuttosport, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“It was nice to see Milan in the Champions League again. They were a bit scared by the atmosphere at Anfield but then they found the right conviction to play and impose their quality. It’s a pity that it ended 3-2.”
