Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay is reportedly set to leave European football for a new chapter in South America.

The Netherlands international, who graduated from PSV Eindhoven’s academy, has played for several European powerhouses since making his senior debut for the Dutch giants in 2011.

Once dubbed the ‘next Cristiano Ronaldo’, Depay moved to the Theatre of Dreams in 2015 with plenty of hype behind him. The Red Devils’ iconic number seven shirt proved to be too heavy for him and eventually, the Dutchman found himself on the fringes of the first team.

He left United for Lyon before moving to Spain to play for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid respectively.

During the winter window of 2023, Depay was linked with a return to Old Trafford amid his former side’s search for a new forward. Erik ten Hag eventually ended up signing another Dutchman, Wout Weghorst. Depay, meanwhile, moved to Madrid.

Following the end of the last season, the 30-year-old parted ways with Diego Simeone’s side and spent the summer as a free agent. Now, a Brazilian club has come calling for him.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Corinthians have reached an agreement in principle with Memphis Depay over a permanent move to the Brazilian Serie A.

Romano adds that documents concerning the transfer are being drafted before Depay puts his pen to paper on a deal understood to be valid until 2026.

Corinthians are struggling in the league this season, currently languishing in 17th place.

Ramón Díaz’s side could certainly do with Depay’s technical ability and versatility up front.

Interestingly, Depay’s ex-United teammate Anthony Martial, who is also a free agent, has attracted interest from Brazil as well.

Earlier this week, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Frenchman has been approached by Flamengo.
