Ex-manager’s verdict on Bale staying at Tottenham with ‘rumours off the charts’ | OneFootball

Gareth Bale’s Tottenham future may lie in the hands of Harry Kane, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Premier League boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 31-year-old could make up his mind about rejoining Spurs based on whether Kane is still at the club.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Spurs chief Daniel Levy will offer the new manager the chance to re-sign Bale on loan next season after negotiating a first-option clause for a second temporary move.

It is said Bale would still need to agree to the move though.

McLeish has suggested the Wales international’s decision could be influenced by what happens to Kane.

However, as revealed by Football Insider, the England striker has told friends he is “hell bent” on leaving Spurs this summer in pursuit of silverware.

McLeish suggested Bale would have other options on the table and that Kane’s future could determine whether he returns.

“What would be his choice if not Spurs?” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“There’ll probably be one or two interested but huge wages to be paid upfront to Real Madrid. He’s not out of contract.

“If he produces that kind of performance level then he’s a big asset to Spurs. You can’t do it every week but world-class players can do it eight, nine out of ten games, then he’s a big asset to Spurs.

“The other side of the coin, if we flip it, is what’s in Harry Kane’s mind? The rumours are off the charts in terms of Harry moving to a club that’s going to win trophies. But again, who’s going to be able to afford them?”

Bale has scored 14 goals in 30 appearances for Tottenham this season, including a hat trick against Sheffield United.

His contract at Real Madrid expires next summer.
