Matteo Darmian feels that the Inter Milan dressing room is a tight-knit group that’s able to enjoy themselves together.

The 34-year-old spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, during the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title celebrations.

Inter are champions of Serie A for the 2023-24 season.

That is confirmed after the Nerazzurri beat city rivals AC Milan in this evening’s derby.

It was a fiery derby, even by the standards of the fixture – there were a total of three red cards, one for Inter and two for Milan.

But when referee Andrea Colombo blew his final whistle, the team were not just celebrating victory in the derby – they were also celebrating the title.

This is the first time that Inter have won the Serie A title since the 2020-21 season.

In the 2021-22 campaign, the Nerazzurri came agonizingly close. But they lost out to city rivals AC Milan on the final day of the season.

Then, last time around, Inter were miles away from champions Napoli, as their form in the league was downright woeful at times.

However, this season Inter have been close to perfect in Serie A.

That is down to the quality and consistency on the pitch. But there is also strength behind the scenes underlying it.

Inter’s squad have displayed a remarkable understanding when they play together.

And in the view of wingback Matteo Darmian, that has a lot to do with how they get along behind the scenes.

Matteo Darmian: Inter Have Fun In The Dressing Room

Wingback Darmian called winning the title “A special moment.”

“It’s beautiful,” the Italian international and former Manchester United defender added.

“It’s beautiful. It always is when you win something special, and to do it in the way that we did this season is an incredible thing.”

“We started the season strong, and in the end we got what we wanted.”

The 34-year-old continued that “We’ve shown that we can always improve more.”

“Last season’s Champions League final gave us an awareness of what we can do, because everyone though that we were doomed, but we showed on the pitch that we can compete with anyone, even a team like City.”

“We didn’t deserve to lose,” Darmian looked back on the Champions League final.

“But that’s football.”

“In the league we learned a lot from last season,” the Italian international said. “Because we had so many ups and downs that weren’t up to the standards we should set.”

“And this season, we ironed these things out and had an incredible season.”

“We know how important it is to have a strong group,” Darmian added. “And we’ve shown that.”

“We’ve created something special in the dressing room,” the 34-year-old said. “We all get along very well during the week.”

“We have fun together, and we show that on the pitch during the matches.”

Darmian added that “I hope that the fans enjoyed this season as much as we did, and we can keep going on to give them more to cheer about.”

“Then, the coach has also done a very good job of managing all of us, and always keeping us on our toes.”
