Aaron Briggs Joins Liverpool as Elite Development Coach

Liverpool have made a significant addition to their coaching staff with the appointment of Aaron Briggs, a former Manchester City analyst, as the new elite development coach. This strategic move aims to bolster the club’s academy-to-first-team pathway, previously overseen by Vitor Matos.

Career Journey of Aaron Briggs

Aaron Briggs, at 37, brings a wealth of experience to Liverpool, having been sought after by several Premier League clubs this summer. Before joining Liverpool, Briggs served as an assistant coach at Wolfsburg under Niko Kovac until their departure in March. His previous roles include tactical analysis coach, assistant coach, and head of football methodology at Monaco between 2020 and 2022.

From Manchester City to Liverpool

Briggs spent nine transformative years at Manchester City, ascending from Under-18 performance analyst to senior first-team performance analyst. His early career saw him contribute to the coaching staff at Blackpool and Preston North End, where he honed his analytical and coaching skills.

Strengthening Liverpool’s Backroom Staff

Briggs’ appointment marks the fourth addition to Arne Slot’s backroom team, following Spike Hulshoff (assistant coach), Ruben Peeters (lead physical performance coach), and Fabian Otte (goalkeeping coach). This team is integral to Liverpool’s strategic vision for developing young talent and enhancing overall team performance.

Ongoing Recruitment for First-Team Coach

Liverpool continues its search for a first-team coach, with former Everton and Netherlands defender Johnny Heitinga being a notable candidate. Heitinga, who recently left West Ham following David Moyes’ departure, is under consideration to bring his expertise to Anfield.

Aaron Briggs’ inclusion in Liverpool’s coaching roster is a testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing talent and achieving excellence.
