Former Arsenal midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi has continued to make strides in France. He is considered one of the most talented midfielders in the emerging generation.
Juninho had a chance to sign Guendouzi when he was the sporting director at Lyon. But according to the Brazilian, he had no idea that the Frenchman would become so “important”. And thus, he missed out on an opportunity to sign the midfielder. Speaking to RMC Sport (via Le10Sport), Juninho said:
“Honestly, Guendouzi is stronger than I thought. I say it honestly. I had discussed him when I was at OL, I had my doubts, but he loses very few balls. From area to area, he does a great job. He works and sets an example without the ball. He is an important player with a very good state of mind.”
The 23-year-old joined Marseille on a permanent deal for a reported fee of €10 million in the last summer transfer window. Since joining permanently, the midfielder has played 13 matches for OL in all competitions, subsequently emerging as one of the integral elements in Igor Tudor’s team.
