Ex-Liverpool striker Voronin: I pleaded with Gerrard, Carragher 'please speak English' | OneFootball

Former Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin has discussed his time at Anfield.

The Ukrainian admits the biggest issue he had was trying to understand the Scouse accents of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

Voronin told Goal: “Perhaps the hardest thing I've faced at Liverpool is the Scouse. My English was not very good anyway, but here I did not understand anything at all. Whenever Carragher and Gerrard said something, I asked them to repeat the same thing in English.

"Liverpool did not suit me as a city as a whole, although it is famous for its history, the Beatles were born here. My Dad is a big fan of this band. When I told him I was moving to Liverpool, he burst into tears.

"I could not get used to the weather in England, to the rhythm of the games. It was difficult without a winter break. As a matter of fact, all the time we just drove somewhere and played, which was very tiring."

Voronin is now assistant coach at Dynamo Kyiv.
