Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is a serious contender to become Everton's next manager.

Negotiations with former Wolves boss Nuno has proved problematic for Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri.

The Portuguese is demanding a significant financial package and wants to bring a large coaching entourage with him to Goodison Park.

This has forced Moshiri to turn his attention to recruiting Benitez, according to the Daily Mail.

Benitez favours a return to England since Dalian Yifang in January, and his family have lived on Merseyside since he joined Liverpool in 2004.

Christophe Galtier, Brighton's Graham Potter and Roberto Martinez have also been considered.
