Former Liverpool and Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant has hit out at suggestions his career has recently taken an interesting turn.

Pennant is currently without a club after ending his association with Isthmian League Premier Division side Billericay Town last month.

And on Friday, The Sun reported that the 35-year-old has now begun appearing alongside his partner Alice Goodwin in online adult films.

But Pennant says the allegations are totally untrue and has vowed to set the record straight in his upcoming biography.

“Calling me a porn star and putting it on the front page of their paper is just a joke,” the Champions League runner-up told The Mirror.

“The problem is that some people will actually believe that I’m in the porn industry.

“I’ve not had a perfect life and my upcoming book ‘MENTAL’ will let the public read my checkered pass but I’m not and will never be a porn star, it’s laughable, I’m a married man living with my wife and step-daughter.

“In fact the major concern for me and Alice is the influence all of this has on family and friends.

“Our lawyers are dealing with the situation now, this kind of thing needs to stop, just because I’m seen as an easy target doesn’t give anyone the right to write stories like that.

“There will be lots of headlines when my book comes out in a few months time and I will happily take any stick that comes with that. I am a lot of things but not a porn star.”

Pennant has so far enjoyed a remarkably nomadic and colourful football journey. After beginning his career at Notts County, he joined Arsenal in 1999 and went on to make 18 appearances for the Gunners before leaving permanently for Birmingham City in 2005.

It was during his time with the Blues that he spent 30 days in prison for drink-driving and driving while disqualified and was forced to play with an electronic ankle tag under his sock upon his release.

In 2006 he moved to Liverpool, for whom he appeared 80 times before joining La Liga side Real Zaragoza in 2009.

His time in Spain was a huge disappointment, however, and in January 2011, his Porsche Turbo was found abandoned in a Zaragoza car park with five months’ worth of parking tickets on the windshield. When questioned, he reportedly told police he forget he owned the car.

In 2011 he moved to Stoke City and from there, his career took him to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Indian Super League side Pune City, Wigan Athletic, Singapore’s Tampines Rovers, Bury and finally Billericay.

It is not yet known where, if anywhere, he’ll end up next, but that autobiography promises to be one heck of a page-turner.
