Former Lazio and West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio feels that even without having won the Serie A title, Inter have had a positive season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Di Canio gave the view that even without the Scudetto, the Nerazzurri showed themselves to be the most formidable side in the Italian top flight over the course of the season.

Inter will feel significant disappointment at having missed out on the Serie A title on the final day of the season, finishing two points behind AC Milan after the final matches.

However, relative to the expectations that had been set by many prior to the start of the season, the team’s performances on the pitch have been strong, and Di Canio feels that even without having won a second consecutive Serie A title, the team can still look back on what they’ve done positively.

“It was a positive season for Inter,” he said, “even if I thought they were the strongest team capable of winning the title.”

“After losing Conte, Lukaku and Hakimi, it was not easy for them to fight to win right away,” he added. “After the first few matches, they looked like a strong team.”

Di Canio pointed out that “Inzaghi took home two trophies, reached the round of sixteen in the Champions League, played Liverpool evenly, and was in the running until the very end.”
